Antique French Faience by Art Deco Master Henri Delcourt c. Very Unique and desirable piece is actually a "Sardine Box" and the Lid Handle is two fish tails intertwined. Close inspection of the handle shows it has been touched up but the rest of the lid and box with base are in excellent antique condition. It measures 9" long by 7.5" wide on the attached base and 6" by 4.5" on the Sardine Box. The Makers Marks are distinctive and verified in the reference book photos.
Henri Delcourt was a lawyer and a banker, who took over the financially distressed Faiencerie during WWl. He had tremendous influence in the onset of Art Deco into French Faience. As he grew into such a significant part of the business, he was a key player in the proliferation of Quimper Faienceries in Bretagne.
